This piece is about joy, but not the calm type.
I was thinking about how people dance during celebrations, especially in Yoruba settings. The movement, the energy, the way everyone connects without even talking too much.
The figures are not standing still because joy is not something that stays in one place. It moves. It spreads.
The woman in red feels important to me. She stands out, almost like she is leading or holding the moment together.
I didn’t try to make everything perfect. The brushstrokes are rough in some areas because I wanted it to feel alive, not controlled.
For me, this painting is about how joy can exist even when life is not perfect.
