Totally Biased Review of Maria Bamford's New Memoir
I first learned about Maria Bamford in the 2005 documentary, The Comedians of Comedy. I had fallen in love with the comedy of Patton Oswalt after listening to his 2004 album Feelin’ Kinda Patton. It was one I quoted frequently to my comedian friends. So when I found out that he had a movie that centered around him and three other comics on tour, I snatched it up and watched it immediately.

Baby's Night Out. Top Story - September 2023. Content Warning.
**This story contains a mention of pregnancy and childbirth.** I just dropped my kid off at something called ‘Parent’s Night Out,' hosted by our Karate dojo. My husband is with his friends at their annual all day game we affectionately refer to as ‘all gay dame.’ So I have the night to myself. It occurred to me that I could use a clever title for my little solo excursion. My buddy Malinda offered ‘baby’s night out’ and I think that fits. It implies wandering in a childlike state of exploration for the simple pleasures in life. A rare treat for a mama with a nine to five and a husband who works most nights and weekends.

My First Foray into Publishing Short Stories Online
First let me admit that I have a terrible memory. Because of my anxiety, my mind loves to focus on awkward and painful memories. The failures instead of the triumphs. How far back should I go? My elementary school scribbles were just glorified spelling and penmanship exercises. I mostly remember the short stories and essays I wrote for my advanced placement English class in the eleventh grade.

If you’re a licensed driver with two parents, there was probably some discussion among them about who would be the one to teach you how to drive. There is always a nervous one and a brave one. I suppose if you had a single parent who fell into the nervous category, it may have been a job outsourced to an uncle or an official driving school if you were middle class enough.
