'Cold Pursuit': What We Know Before the Release
The Premise: Cold Pursuit stars Liam Neeson as Nelson "Nels" Coxson, a snow plow driver in a ritzy resort town in the Rocky Mountains. When his son is murdered by drug dealers, Nels goes on a roaring rampage of revenge, taking out a gang of baddies one by one building toward a boss battle with the big bad of the gang.

Movie Review 'The Drone'
The Drone is one of the silliest nonsense horror movies of recent memory. The film ranks next to movies like Zombeavers or the Korean horror movie, The Wig, which features killer hair extensions, as a movie with a dopey beyond dopey premise. The Drone features exactly what the title promises, a drone. Only this particular drone happens to have the spirit of a dead serial killer inside of it.

'Miss Bala': What We Know Before the Release
Premise When her best friend goes missing during a trip to a Mexico City nightclub, Gloria (Gina Rodriguez) goes looking for her only to find herself kidnapped and forced to become a drug mule. When she tries to escape, she becomes a pawn in a deadly game between the drug dealing kidnappers and the American government is eager to use her as an asset to take down a cartel.

Movie Review 'Drugs as Weapons Against Us'
Drugs as Weapons Against Us is one of the cheaper and lazier documentaries I have seen in quite some time. Cobbled together from several other superior documentaries, Drugs as Weapons Against Us aims to expose how the CIA has employed drugs, including LSD and other psychoactives, to attempt to destroy leftist opponents of rightwing governments; the documentary has compelling ideas, but is unappealing and cheap in the presentation of those ideas.

'Roma' Is Now the Oscar Favorite
Has Roma become the Academy Award favorite? After receiving 10 Academy Award nominations, including at least one surprise nomination, Roma heads toward the Academy Awards presentation in February as the presumptive favorite to take home Best Picture. Yes, Alfonso Cuaron’s true from his life story still has obstacles to overcome, but if you’re betting the favorite for this year’s awards, well… The Favourite may not be the actual favorite.

After waking up in his car in some lonely Los Angeles alley, with no idea what he did in the preceding days, Brian decides he wants to quit. So, Brian calls a friend to be his sponsor and join him as he dries out a cabin he owns on a remote, California mountainside.

Predicting the Critics Choice Awards
The ageless Taye Diggs hosts the Critics Choice Awards on Sunday night. The awards show, for which I am one of the voters, awards the best in film and television. It's the 24th Annual Critics Choice Awards and it is as unpredictable as ever with the Broadcast Film Critics bucking the recent trend toward Green Book and Vice by making The Favorite with the most nominations.

The Tortured Release Tale of 'The Upside' Starring Kevin Hart
The Upside starring Kevin Hart and Bryan Cranston opens nationwide this weekend, and there is much that we know thus far about this film. Not the least of which is the ongoing controversy surrounding Kevin Hart and his unceremonious (literally) departure from hosting the Academy Awards. When Hart was announced as the host last year, Twitter users began reposting homophobic tweets that the actor and comedian had posted years earlier.

The Visual Language of 'A Star Is Born'. Top Story - December 2018.
Bradley Cooper is the surprise of the season with his remarkable direction of A Star Is Born. The challenge he set for himself on his first time out behind the camera was daunting to say the least. Not only is Cooper directing himself in the lead role, he’s directing a non-actress, Lady Gaga, in the other lead role. He also had massive logistics to tend to with crowds, music, and stadiums where conditions—we can easily imagine—that were not always conducive to a director desperately trying to capture a needed moment.

Classic Movie Review 'Lord of the Rings: Return of the King'
The ‘Undisputed Classic’ on the December 16th episode of the Everyone’s a Critic Movie Review Podcast is our final leg in the Lord of the Rings franchise, Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. I could not be happier for this to be over. I wasn’t a big fan of bringing the Rings trilogy to the show and having watched all three for the second time in my life, I am elated to leave them in the past. Don’t misunderstand, I appreciate the achievement and the artistry but I just don’t care about this fantasy universe or its soporific inhabitants.
