We Were At A Beach Party

Out of nowhere, it was time for all to go home

Can you believe we went all the way to Mazatlan, Mexico, to attend this party, and the couple hosting kicked everyone out because of one stupid myth!

I was looking forward to spring break as we had plans to attend a beach party with all of our friends that we have known since grade school. Clark was cool in high school and then in college, but April just wasn't cool at all!

I remember when she thought that on Friday the 13th, we couldn't go anywhere or do anything without running into bad luck. She wouldn't cross a black cat's path and drive blocks out of her way to go around.

So when the locals talked about how there was a story about too many people swimming in the ocean at one time in Mazatlan is bad luck, and people are hurt and even killed after dark, April asked everyone to leave as the sun was setting.

She did tell us that it would be okay to come back the next day. It was just tonight that would be a problem. So what do we do now in Mazatlan, after dark? Don't tell me that Clark and April are coming with us!

Well, it can still be a fun night. I will just ignore April, and when we get to some place fun, maybe we can leave her at the table, while we dance or find other things to do. Maybe we can even sneak out to party with some fun friends.

After hours of drinking and dancing and not getting away from April and Grant, we decided to take them back to the ocean where we had partied earlier in the day.

A dip in the ocean before going to bed sounded fun. As we got to the beach to swim, April warned us of the myth of swimming in the ocean after dark, and she told us that she would wait in the car for us.

I thought it was a great idea that she wouldn't be with us at the beach. There were others there, too, and everyone appeared to be having a good time. When we got back to the car after a refreshing swim, Clark wasn't there.

April said he went down shortly after we did. We could hear panic in her voice. We agreed to go back down to the beach to look for Clark. After looking around for about an hour with no luck, we were beginning to panic.

That is when we saw April and Clark walking toward us, hand in hand. April is smiling, and Clark is looking sheepish. When we realized they had played a trick on us, we were not happy.

I decided to get back at April by saying, We were so scared when Clark was missing, as they found an unconscious man who they took to the hospital a short time ago. We thought that man might be Clark. I was coming to get you to go with us to the hospital.

April then says, OMG, I told you that this would happen. It probably had something to do with going into the water too soon after eating his dinner. That was one of the things they said, and the other was that when people are drinking too much, it often causes them to get cramps in the water and that they can die.

April, are you saying that you believed those old myths? They have been debunked a long time ago. Is that the real reason you called the party off, because people were eating, drinking, and going into the water?

April, if you ever have another beach party or any party, please do not invite me. Now it's time to go back to the hotel and get some sleep.

April sounds a little overly cautious although I do know a lot of cases when people drowned when they were drunk. Had to do more with the ability to breathe in the water rather than cramps, though.

It must be so frustrating to be friends with April, lol. Loved your story!
