Mrs. Periwinkle plucked a ripe apple from the tree and tossed it in her basket. She took the apples and headed inside. She mashed up a couple of apples and concocted her own apple cider. Next, she sat under her apple tree and read from her book of poetry. The bluebirds in the sky chirped their happy songs for her. Her brawny husband Sam came into sight. He waved at her and smiled warmly. “Greetings my love,” he said. “How do you do my sweet,” she asked. “Labor is long and hard but seeing your face makes it all worthwhile,” he confessed. “Your flattery knows no bounds,” Mrs. Periwinkle said. He bent down and kissed her cheek.“You make me blush as if I was a school girl again,” she confessed. From her crystal ball watched a woman equally as beautiful as Lorna Periwinkle. However, she is ugly in her heart. She grimaced as she watched this mushy scene. She turned to her pet raven named Midnight and said,“Don’t it make you sick?” “Someone’s jealous?” Midnight retorted. Storm, the witch’s black cat rubbed against her leg. The witch was named Sienna Cedar. She bent down and petted her cat. “Why can’t you be sweet like Storm?” she asked. “He’s only nice to you because you feed him,” Midnight squawked. “Can I eat the bird now?” Storm asked licking his lips. “You wouldn’t dare, tuna breath,” Midnight said. “Graveyard lurcher,” Storm shot back. “That’s enough you two,” Sienna said. “we’re a family; we shouldn’t fight.” The cat and the raven grumbled.

Lorna went to market and bought some new shoes. She thanked the merchant and headed home. On the way home she met a limping puppy named Magenta. “What’s wrong little dog?” she asked. “I lost a fight with a bigger dog,” Magenta said. “Do you have a home?” Lorna asked. “No,” Magenta said. “Are you hungry?” Lorna asked with growing concern. The puppy nodded. He followed her home and she fed him. He made little munching noises as he ate. He devoured it all then looked up at her. She took out her white healing stone and ran it over the afflicted area. He grimaced at first and gradually his pain went away. Magenta ran around the living room because now he has a case of the zoomies. He has no pain; he felt incredible. He smiled and they played all afternoon. “It looks like we have a new addition to our family,” Sam said after he walked into the room. He bent down and tried petting the dog but Magenta ran behind Lorna’s legs to hide. “What’s wrong little fella?” Sam asked. The puppy trembled as if reliving a traumatic past. He sniffled as he spoke. “You look like my mean owner,” Magenta confessed. “His wife loved me and even named me. She fell ill and he blamed me,” Magenta confessed. “I’d never harm you,” Sam said. “You won’t?” Magenta asked. He smiled warmly at the frightened puppy. “Of course not,” Sam said. “P-Promise?” Magenta stuttered. “Cross my heart,” Sam said while making an X on his chest. Magenta’s little sniffles dried up and he sniffed Sam’s hand. Sam gently stroked the little dog’s head. The puppy was surprised at how gentle such a powerful man could be. Magenta decided to ease his worry and gave into the affection. This sweet scene brought a smile to Lorna’s lips. Lorna and Sam shared a quick kiss.

Sienna entered at the blacksmith’s store. She watched the beautiful blacksmith, a blonde minister of muscle, named Cyrus Red. “How be you on this fine day,” Sienna asked. He continued to hammer away, forging his sword. “What do you want?” Cyrus replied. Sierra frowned. “I’m just here to see my favorite blacksmith.” “Buy something or get out,” he ordered. “Why are you being so rude to me?” Sienna pouted. Cyrus looked up at the witch. “Your heart is dark and full of wickedness,” he said. “The girl I wed must be pure of heart.” Her eyes started to mist. She waved dismissively and gave a final,“bah,” before walking out of the shop. She kicked at the dirt as she walked down the dirt road. “How does one change one’s heart?” she thought. She came to Lorna’s house and knocked three times. Lorna answered the door. “Sienna, what brings you here?” “I was wondering if you could help me?” Sienna asked. “With what?” Lorna wondered. Sienna sighed.“Changing my heart to win a suitor.” Lorna smiled and nodded. “Sure, I will help you, but why me?” “You’re the kindest and sweetest girl I know,” Sienna admitted. “You’ve never talked to me like that before,” Lorna said. “I was aways jealous of you,” Sienna stated. “You have so much potential for good,” Lorna said. The puppy approached Sienna. She smiled, bent down, and petted him. Magenta wagged his tail. “Be kind, forgive, and let love into your heart,” Lorna advised. She came home with a treat for Midnight.

“Is this a trick?” the raven asked. “I’m trying to be kinder,” the Sienna admitted. She held out her hand and waited for Midnight to eat. He looked at the witch and then back at the food. He gobbled up the food and Sienna petted his head. Storm looked up at her. “You petted a dog, didn’t you?” he asked. “I did,” she said. Storm shook his head. “Traitor.” She went to the shop and met with Cyrus. “I cordially invite you to dine with me tonight,” Sienna asked. “What’s the occasion?” Cyrus asked. “I like you and want to cook a meal for you; I want to prove to you I can be kind,” Sienna said. “I’ll be over,” he said. “7:00 pm.” “It won’t be fancy,” she said. “Nothing fancy. That will be fine,” he replied. Dinner time arrived and Storm sat right in Cyrus’ lap. Sienna wore a curve hugging dress, a pearl necklace that dazzled, and sparkly earrings. “You have charmed me tonight. I think we could start a friendship and see where that goes,” Cyrus said while looking at her in a new light. “Some friends become lovers though,” Sienna said, full of hope. Cyrus smiled and nodded. “Some do; some don’t. It’s a crap shoot.” “We’ve got at least a fifty-fifty chance. Sienna said. “I like those odds.”
