Sims 4 is basically over. So, what's next?

Are you an aspiring game dev and simmer?

So if you don't know by now EA has been sold to Jared Kushner, who sold the game to someone else.

Last I heard there were other buyers from different countries, but now the "lead buyer" is from Saudia Arabia, the other buyer is a U.S investment firm called Silver Lake, and another called Affinity Partners. Since Saudia Arabia owns most of EA currently, simmers are scared, others are quitting. You can look up why and come back or just keep reading, it's not that important here.

As I mentioned,

TS4 [The Sims 4] Simmers chose to leave the community, others decided to return to previous games like Sims Life Stories, Sims 2, & Sims 3. Many from what I've noticed still play, though.

Why? TS4 Custom Content [CC] Creators keep releasing gorgeous content that makes simmers want to stay. I could even argue TS4's Youtubers and CC creators are EA's accomplices at this point.

We're all watching, waiting to see what the next move of the TS4 Custom Content creators will be. Why? Because when they move, we'll move.

The Sims 4 has been a dead game for years but the only thing keeping it alive has been the efforts of Modders, CC creators, (and youtubers) they fix the game's bugs and add game changing new content, they're always pushing out incredible stuff, so if we see CC creators still releasing gorgeous mouth-watering furniture we saw off pinterest, architectural digest and conversions from other video games- then, yeah, we're going to lose our minds and fold.

(I've actually installed and uninstalled this game so many times due to perfomance issue and other reasons in the past, currently I'm taking a break to focus on game dev pursuits, but I still lurk around because I truly admiret the work of cc creators- I kinda wish more blender creators and other background & environment artists showed off their work with the same openness, I feel like within the art community, certain types are just more open and post their work more, while others post less.)

When I realized the Sims 4 was officially dying, dying, I only had one deep regret.

It was that most of the Sims 4 Community's CC creators didn't have blender files of their work readily available.

For those of you who don't know blender is a 3D computer graphics software that allows you to create a plethora of 3D art and even 2D art. You can create characters, set up rooms, and build worlds, once you're familiar with the softwares.

With blender you don't have to make everything yourself, you can download free assets that others have created. So that's what I mean. You could use some of the things to still build rooms in blender, kinda like still getting to play the sims... but you're not...

So imagine if TS4 creators started releasing their stuff for blender instead?

Cause think about it, their work is gonna go to so much waste. I don't know if that's why they haven't given up on releasing content for Sims 4 yet, because if this is about income, they still have options, and it's to start making game assets, make their own decorator game or start building games with gorgeous backgrounds elsewhere because these folks are already doing it every time they showcase their work. These people can make youtube videos of them touring their blender builds and I'm pretty sure it'll take off. . . Or at least I would watch it.

[Edit: Jan 8, 2026] I forgot to mention Alpha/HQ (high quality) creators do release blender version of their work, but not all, I've noticed most Maxis Match creators rarely do this, although I'm sure they keep their blender files to themselves, which is fine, so long as they do something with their work!

Moving on.

After stewing in my thoughts, I finally came to my own conclusion.

I've begun to focus on more projects as a rookie game writer. And I found myself wishing things were more non-artist friendly. I realized that Sims 4 could have also been a tool for helping non-artists to create- because Sims 4 is a creative game. We're making stories, videos, comics, there's so much you can do with the Sims, some have even made non-commercial games! But aside from modding, and YouTubing could you make a proper career out of it? No. You should though. Sims 4 proves that you don't have to be an artist to have an artistic eye all you need is the tools to create- simmers have made beautiful builds, and stunning, jaw dropping sims. So I began to think:

Man, it sucks that we're not able to export our sims as sprites for video game characters. (I know about ninja ripper, but I wish it officially allowed players to do that without all of that)

It sucks that we can't legally build our own game worlds similiarly to sketchup/blender and use it for commercial work.

I wish the Sims 4 took itself more seriously, and realize just what it did for people, for non-artists, writers and dreamers, but I also hope someone could step up to the mantle and create a software tool instead of another failed life-sim game.

Imagine it:

What if someone created a software similar to the Sims 4/Sketchup/Blender?

Only it's a beginner friendly tool meant for game asset creation, for visual novels (so anime sand other artstyles too), fashion/decorator games, or game cutscenes specifically. Using a library of free pre-made assets, and links to talented artists willing to sell their art commercially, players could build their own characters sprites, customize their poses, their emotions, similar to the CAS, creating different outfits. They can adjust their colors of hair, eyes, clothing article etc.

There could also be a build a room, build a building, build an environment or build a world feature. Allowing the creatives to create scenes and a map for their world. Similar to Sims 4's Build & Buy mode. Even better if the software has a line art tool similar to blender which makes 3D objects look 2D depending on the style the creator is going for.

Users could position their sprites in scenes and adjust them accordingly, potentially able to either pull off a visual novel setup or an animation scene where the character can move around. The user can tell the software what it wants to do, point and clicking the route, and place of interation, using pre-made animations, custom ones, props, or commissioned ones to set the scene.

The software will also have special scene recording features.

The software will have a store site where users can readily find artists selling their art-work for the type of work their looking for. There's no hiding game of having to search the four ends of the world wide web looking under every rock and small niche website.

Regarding copywriting, creators will be operating under a copyright free for commercial use rule/pay for commercial use and will be credited. Commissions can also be made to them.

The software will also automatically generate a list of assets, crediting its creators, and project collaborators upon exportation, to help the users keep track of their list of assets.

In the Sims Community there are different types of simmers.

  • Players who only create sims. (They are character designers & artists)
  • Players who only build buildings & worlds. (They are environment artists)
  • Players who only do interior design. (They are background artists)
  • Players who use nothing but cheats. (Baby coders)
  • Players who story tell. (Game writers, Script writers and Narrative Designers)
  • Players who actually play the game. (Game testers!)

The list goes on and on.

Sims 4 is a game that's incredibly time & energy consuming. Simmers often end up burning through hours just to do the smallest of things. We're constantly editing, yet by the end of it all when we take a few photos here and there it's not given enough justice, the picture is just a picture and the true beauty remainds trapped in the game.

So please understand why I would lose interest in playing the game and be more interested in wanting to use the builds and characters I create be used for something I personally find more interesting- story telling.

I want to develop games, but I'm a writer, I have my limits. There are many things I have to learn and I often get overwhelmed because I want to focus on writing, another time consuming process. There's not enough time in a day to do all of that. So it would be helpful if there was a tool that's not AI that could help us create what we envision, and that's making a software that is Similar to the Sims 4 but better, instead of Create-A-Sim- we have Create-A-Sprite, Build & Buy Mode, Create a world/environment, camera shots and video editing and recording features, this time with a special focus given to scene building and screenwriting, incorporating the different kind of camera shots, props, its functions & game effects, etc A software that can help you keep track of game documentation and logic. Something that has multiple uses like a script writing tool that can help you create scripts for films, screen-writing, games, comics. Something that can help you keep track of your assets and its creators, so you can credit them all accurately. Something where you can collaborate on with different artists, animators, web developers, screen writers, sound engineers, programmers, you name it!!!

The Sims community is proof that normal people are all capable of developing stories, game worlds and characters if given the right tools to help them execute their vision. So someone, please! Instead of making AI ART, instead of ripping things from dead games- Please! Someone, create a beginner friendly software that gives players the tools to create without needing to burn time!

(Sims 4 is time consuming, but I imagine building everything from scratch or using assets softwares like blender, maya, sketchup, photoshop etc, is way more time consuming. I want to be able to show up to a programmer/game engineer, sound engineers, UI & UX designers with everything I already need to save on costs

Wish #2.

2. Dear Someone,

Please create a simslit website where simmers can publish their stories, comics, and videos, and get monetarily rewarded for views.

I said it before but simmers are doing work and they don't even realize it. They should be able to earn an income off their work, as Sims 4 isn't just a game it's a tool for creatives to tell stories.

Simmers write stories but they tend to use personal blogs so it can become a tedious task trying to keep track of them all, especially if they don't use wordpress or tumblr. However, if they're all on the same website, then you can easily find them all, subscribe & donate to them, they can get rewarded for their creativity. Everyone wins.
