End Times
There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people — everyone whose name is found written in the book — will be delivered.

Daniel 12:1-4 (NIV)
1 “At that time Michael, the great prince who protects your people, will arise. There will be a time of distress such as has not happened from the beginning of nations until then. But at that time your people — everyone whose name is found written in the book — will be delivered.
2 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to shame and everlasting contempt.
3 Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.
4 But you, Daniel, roll up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.”
Your Name In The Book
The passage opens with something that could easily make us anxious.
A time of distress unlike anything the world has ever seen. That is not a small statement. History has seen plagues, wars, famines, genocide. And God is saying what is coming will be worse than all of it.
But before we sit with that for too long, look at what comes right after.
But at that time your people — everyone whose name is found written in the book — will be delivered.
The distress is real. But so is the deliverance. And the deliverance is tied to one thing — your name being in the book. Not your performance. Not how well you held it together during the hard times. Just — is your name there.
This is the assurance that carries us through every difficult season. Not that life will be easy. Not that we will be spared from hardship. But that in the middle of it all, if we belong to Him, we will be delivered. That promise does not expire and it does not waver based on circumstances.
Your name in the book is enough.
The Awakening
Verse 2 is one of the clearest statements about resurrection in the entire Old Testament.
Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake.
Death is not the end. The people lying in the dust are not gone forever. There is a waking coming. And when it comes, every single person who has ever lived will face what their life added up to.
Some to everlasting life. Others to shame and everlasting contempt.
This is a passage that does not let us stay comfortable. It reminds us that eternity is real and that the choices we make in this life have weight that extends far beyond it. Every day we are living toward something. Every decision, every step of faith or away from it, every moment of choosing God or choosing self — it all matters more than we realise in the ordinary flow of daily life.
The awakening is coming for everyone. The question is which side of it we will be on.
Shine Like The Stars
After the weight of verses 1 and 2, verse 3 lands like a breath of fresh air.
Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens.
And then this — those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.
For ever and ever. Not for a season. Not until they are forgotten. The people who pointed others toward God, who lived wisely and led faithfully, who used their lives to bring others into the light — they will shine permanently.
I think about this in the context of what you are doing when you write a reflection, when you share a verse, when you tell someone about what God has done in your life. It might feel small. It might feel like it is not reaching many people yet. But every person you lead toward righteousness carries an eternal weight that you cannot fully see from where you are standing.
The stars do not know how far their light travels. They just shine.
Be faithful with what God has put in your hands. The reach is His to determine. The shining is yours to do.
Seal It Until The Time
God tells Daniel to seal the scroll until the time of the end.
There is something quietly profound about that instruction. Daniel received this vision and was told to close it up. To trust that the right time for its full understanding would come. He would not live to see it all unfold. He had to be okay with holding something he could not fully see the purpose of yet.
How often does God ask us to do the same thing?
He gives us a promise, a vision, a word over our lives — and then asks us to seal it in our hearts and keep walking. Not to demand immediate explanation. Not to force it open before its time. Just to trust that what He has spoken will make sense when the moment arrives.
Daniel did not need to understand everything. He just needed to be faithful with what he was given.
So do we.
Many Will Go Here And There
The last line of this passage is interesting.
Many will go here and there to increase knowledge.
We live in that time right now. Information is everywhere. Knowledge is more accessible than it has ever been in human history. You can find the answer to almost any question in seconds. We are surrounded by content, opinions, perspectives, data — all of it available all the time.
And yet for all that knowledge, genuine wisdom is still rare.
The wise in this passage are not the most informed. They are the ones who shine. The ones whose lives point others toward God. In a world drowning in information, the person who lives with quiet wisdom and genuine faith stands out more than ever.
You do not need more knowledge. You need more of Him.
Walk On
Your name is in the book.
The distress is real but so is the deliverance. The awakening is coming but so is the everlasting life. The world is full of noise but God is still calling people to shine like stars.
Be wise. Lead others toward righteousness. Trust what He has sealed in your heart until the time is right.
Shine. 🤍
