The Marriage No One Approved

A love story that defied family traditions but awakened something dark that neither of them was prepared to face.

In a small town surrounded by farmland and quiet winding roads, lived a young woman named Aisha who had grown up in a strict and traditional family where every decision about her future was expected to follow the wishes of her parents and elders. Her life had always been carefully controlled, from the school she attended to the friends she was allowed to meet, and although she respected her family deeply, there was a part of her that longed for freedom and the ability to choose her own path. That path eventually crossed with a young man named Rahul, who worked in a small bookstore near the town center and carried a quiet confidence that immediately attracted Aisha the first time she visited the shop.

Their connection began innocently with casual conversations about books and dreams for the future, but over time those conversations turned into something deeper and more emotional as they began meeting secretly whenever Aisha could find an excuse to leave the house. Rahul was everything her family would disapprove of because he came from a different background and lived a much simpler life than the wealthy expectations her parents had planned for her. Despite knowing the consequences they might face, the two slowly fell deeply in love and began imagining a future together far away from the pressure and control of their families.

When Aisha finally gathered the courage to tell her parents about Rahul, the reaction was far worse than she had feared. Her father’s anger shook the entire house, and her mother pleaded with her to forget about the relationship entirely, insisting that such a marriage would bring shame to the family and destroy everything they had worked for. Rahul faced similar rejection from his own relatives, who warned him that marrying against the wishes of both families would lead to nothing but hardship and regret. Yet the more they were told to stay apart, the more determined they became to prove that their love was stronger than the traditions standing in their way.

After months of arguments and emotional confrontations, Aisha and Rahul made the decision that would change their lives forever. One evening they quietly left the town together and traveled to a nearby city where they could legally register their marriage without the approval of their families. The ceremony itself was simple and quiet, attended only by two witnesses who barely knew them, yet for Aisha and Rahul it felt like the beginning of the freedom they had dreamed about for so long.

At first their new life together seemed peaceful despite the challenges they faced. They rented a small apartment on the edge of the city and worked long hours to support themselves, believing that time would eventually soften the anger of their families. But after only a few weeks something strange began to disturb the quiet happiness they had built.

It started with small things that were easy to ignore. Late at night Aisha would hear faint knocking sounds coming from the walls of their apartment, soft taps that seemed to move slowly from one room to another. Rahul initially dismissed the noises as pipes shifting inside the building or neighbors moving furniture, but the sounds continued every night and gradually became louder and more deliberate.

One evening while preparing dinner, Aisha noticed something even more unsettling. A framed photograph from their wedding that had been placed carefully on the living room shelf was now lying face down on the floor as though someone had deliberately pushed it off. Rahul insisted it must have fallen by accident, yet neither of them could explain why the heavy frame had landed several feet away from the shelf instead of directly beneath it.

As the days passed the strange occurrences intensified. Doors that had been firmly closed would be found slightly open in the morning, lights flickered unpredictably, and objects seemed to shift from the places where they had been left. Rahul began to feel uneasy but still tried to reassure Aisha that there must be logical explanations for everything they were experiencing.

The moment that truly frightened them happened one stormy night when a sudden power outage plunged the entire apartment into darkness. As Rahul searched for candles in the kitchen, Aisha stood frozen in the hallway because she could clearly hear footsteps moving slowly inside the bedroom behind her. The steps were heavy and deliberate, yet Rahul was still in the kitchen and there was no one else in the apartment.

When Rahul returned with a candle and entered the bedroom, the room appeared completely empty except for the closet door which was slowly creaking open on its own. Neither of them spoke for several seconds as the candlelight flickered across the walls and revealed deep scratch marks along the inside of the closet door that had not been there before.

From that night onward the apartment felt different. The air seemed colder, the shadows darker, and the knocking sounds that once came from the walls now seemed to echo from beneath the floor itself. Aisha began to feel constantly watched even when she was alone, and Rahul often woke in the middle of the night convinced he had heard someone whispering their names from somewhere inside the apartment.

Eventually fear forced them to leave the apartment and move to another part of the city, hoping that whatever haunted the place would remain behind. Yet even years later Aisha still wondered whether the warnings from their families had been about more than tradition and pride.

Because sometimes the things that oppose love are not always human.
