Blah blah blah, you say?
Blah blah blah blah blah, I say
Don't procrastinate!

A/N: Blah Blah Blah Day is annually celebrated on 17th April. Your first thought may be "what kind of silly day is that?" Right? That's what I first thought. I was curious about this silliness, so I went on and did some reasearch on the history and meaning of 'blah blah blah' and even found some activities to celebrate the day. I was surprised! My Senryu is an attempt to illustrate this in a fun and concise way that we can all remember.
Blah Blah Blah Day: A little history
It is believed that the phrase “blah blah blah” originated in ancient Greece from “bar bar bar,” which was derived from the sounds made by barbarians, and they were considered to be “meaningless noises.” Over time, this sound morphed into phrases such as “yada yada yada” and “blab blab blab.”
Ruth and Thomas Roy of Wellcat Holidays and Herb launched Blah Blah Blah Day back in 2006, 20 years ago! It is meant to be a day to appreciate casual conversation and encourage people to do what others have been nagging them about, including listening to people’s advice and putting them into action.
As it turns out, it is also a day that encourages you to deal with your procrastination, take action, and start accomplishing what you wrote on your To Do List or your New Year's Resolutions; in other words, something like "stop talking and start doing."
Apparently, the word 'blah' was first used in writing in 1918 by American journalist Howard Vincent O’Brien who becomes the first to use ‘blah’ in his memoir “Wine, Women & War” where he wrote: “[He] pulled old blah about ‘service’ ... ” in relation to gossiping and talking about meaningless topics.
According to a definition on Dictionary.com, "blah blah blah" refers to meaningless chatter or idle gossip. "Blah blah blah" is also used when you're uninterested in what someone is saying or feel the other person is nagging you. You know, when you feel the urge to roll your eyes (sometimes secretly).
Suggested activities to celebrate Blah Blah Blah Day include:
1. Stop procrastinating: Take action and do something you have been postponing for a long time.
2. Take your loved ones' advice seriously: Think of advice a friend or family member gave you in the past and think again about it, but more seriously. Perhaps they were right.
3. Have a casual conversation with a friend: Taking time off to simply have a conversation with a friend seems to be a thing of the past. I know that years ago, I used to spend hours talking with a friend, something I no longer do. Blah Blah Blah Day is a good opportunity to bring that habit back.
