Empty Choir

A Memory That Always Comes Back

You’re an old ghost in a modern house,

Creeping through the freshly painted halls.

A fleeting moment long since gone,

But a memory that stalls.

I resent the way you made me

Wear the guilt that you rehearsed.

You looked at me with such disdain

When your betrayal made me burst.

As I am born again,

From the ashes of your fire,

The house has been rebuilt,

Yet you remain my empty choir.

My anger reignites

As your memory often returns

I shove it down and keep you quiet,

But my fury never learns.

Lurking in the shadows,

The indignation that you caused

Is the one room in this house

Where the clock is forever paused.
