Love me directly - that's what I said
No excuses, lies I've been fed
Of the time we spoke of sacred things
We sat and laughed and ate like kings
And love instantly I never really asked
Who can adore a man with a strange past
Of the time he did 'this or that' you'll never forget
Store it up for someday and make him regret
It's so hard to make loving friends in this day in age
Everyone plays a part on this giant stage
And when you get them don't you dare let go
A best friend, a friendly face - one that's not for show
And don't betray that love of yours
Don't mix about the company of whores
They will speak half-righteousness in your ear
They will tell you half-truths your friend is to fear
Even after love divorced the great times we had -
One friend yet remains obscenely glad
Of the years he is sure and certainly blessed
At least - on his part - he gave his best
