Paper Boats

We fold our dreams, in paper boats.

Each crease is sharp, yet holds a wish.

The stream receives them, gentle, quick.

They float away, into the sun.

A hand reaches, to stop one’s flight.

A giggle bursts, it breaks the calm.

We let them go, they shine, they turn.

The water swallows, the world is wide.

We chase the tails, the edges curl.

Our knees are wet, our fingers numb.

But still we fold, another boat.

Another hope, another small delight.

Evening bends, and paints the sky.

Our boats are gone, but not the thrill.

We carry it, in hearts and hands.

The folded sparks, of paper dreams.

I actually remember doing this from time to time. Mine always sank though.
