Spring, Once More

A poem dedicated to the long-awaited arrival of the spring season.

Here she comes again

Not knocking but slipping gently through windows ajar,

Resting in the quiet corners of the day,

Making me smile as I walk along.

The light stretches itself across,

Unashamed rays of gold lingering in place,

My sweetest companion.

And something in me answers back.

I wake earlier,

Not out of duty,

But because the morning arrives as an invitation.

The air is softer now.

I fill my lungs without thinking.

My body remembers

that this is how living is meant to feel.

Outside, everything is becoming-

buds loosening into colour,

trees extending their arms,

the world practising joy once more.

And I follow.

I amble,

just to stay beneath the sunlight a moment longer.

I laugh more easily,

as though the sound has been waiting

tucked beneath my ribs.

Spring births happiness.

Reminding that warmth returns,

that light shall stretch,

that even after the long quiet,

life will begin again.

As shall we.
