The silence of solitude
a 'Say it Plainly' poem
The silence of solitude is good.
But too much silence lets depression slide in.
Waiting for a sign, for a feeling to resume,
for a friend to call,
for a lover to repent,
for a long-lost fiancé to recant
and do more than promise.
But the silence affords time.
Time to think,
to regroup,
to fortify within.
Not with placation,
or tributes,
or apologies for victimhood.
But with heart, with soul, with purpose.
And the purpose is…?
To keep trying,
to keep feeling,
to keep going,
to keep discovering,
to stay open.
to stay here,
for as long as Life will let me.
To be here, for my children,
To be here, to experience Nature,
To be here, to seize the ‘next chapter’ -
whatever that may be.
Silence,
solitude.
It looks not-so-bad
on me.

Silence - great sometimes but not all the time. I like quiet. But the more one is alone in quiet, the more some want to be just that way. I guess those who take a vow of silence would not know what to do with people chatting together. Great job on this poem!
