His car entering the driveway

The jingling of his keys in the front door

Were a distinctive sound

Now lost forevermore

The cry of "Honey I'm home"

The shoes that would click as mine would clack

Have been replaced by an eerie silence

No longer a voice to answer mine back

Sleeping on the downstairs couch

Or sideways across the bed

Does not erase the loneliness

Or the memories in my head

Emptiness beside me on the church pew

Where a space once was occupied

No voice to say "Home James" after benediction

So many nights I've cried

No hand to hold or lips to kiss

The warm embrace I dearly miss

Attending events with others

And finding new hobbies don't erase

The void, and emptiness

No one can fill his space

heartbreak
