Women

she cradled me in her loving arms

fed me

watched me grow into an inquisitive young man who

could barely wait to build a future...

a mother's attachment synchs with

the miracle of birth

five times she carried

five times she delivered

five times she nurtured...

i never considered the

sacrifices she had to make to ensure

we had everything we needed...

as a single mom, she worked her way through

anything blocking her way from succeeding

all the while dividing her attention five ways—

unique to our own growing awareness.

*

she did it!

we all survived to begin navigating

our way through life

but there were no standing ovations for her devotion...

no high-fives waiting...

no accolades to be given out...

there was only personal fulfillment, appreciation

and plenty of hugs

*

women stand as a superior force in

their own right, displaying compassion,

patience and intelligence

women are intuitive, empathetic, insightful

women are wise

women are perceptive

women are productive—

able to do anything a man can do and more...

*

i was not born a woman

but the reverence will never falter

never deviate from what can’t be denied:

-women are the better gender-

there! it's been said...

it's never been a competition

but in my opinion, it's fact

*

whomever the sexist was who said:

a woman's place is in the home,

never met my mother or understood much about life...

yes, it may take two to conceive a child,

but it only takes the will of one strong female

to instill lessons of love...

***

A million thanks go out to women and loving parents everywhere.

This is so sweet and touching! Your mother was indeed a special woman. Mine had five too, but my dad was the breadwinner, and they stayed together until he passed. Lovely tribute!! 💜

Beautifully said, Lamar! Your admiration and appreciation for your mother sings in this poem. Well done!

  • Excellent my friend. women are definitely the better gender

  • I agree that a woman's place is not at home or the kitchen. A woman's place is wherever she wants to be. But I don't agree that women are the better gender. Humans can be better/worse regardless of gender. I feel being a man or a woman has it's pros and cons, thus I feel it's unfair to compare which gender is better. I'm so sorry if this comes across as offensive, that wasn't my intention at all. I sometimes feel men don't get enough credit for all the things that they do, that's all. Loved your beautiful tribute to your mom!

  • Nothing here but admiration... ⚡💙Bill⚡

Love this Lamar! Great work As a man raised by a single mom, this resonates!

  • As a mother and a woman I greatly appreciate these words. I've only had three children and I've had a partner to help me raise them. I am in awe of what your mother accomplished on her own. And you, dear Lamar, are a wonderful tribute to her labor of love. She must be so proud of all you've become.

One of my challenge suggestion was for men to write about women and vice versa...i know they won't use it, but it would be interesting what could come from it. lovely work Lamar.
