Grief 101: Resentment
My husband's death is the first time that I have dealt with resentment as I am grieving. I am not talking about resenting the fact that other couples are still celebrating anniversaries and milestones. I am addressing something that I was unaware of and I desire others to be aware of this emotion and not to be too hard on themselves. After my great grandmother died in 1975 we were given a Golde Retriever puppy and I grew to love him and see him as part of the family. After my husband died I purchased a cat from a local shelter and everything was different.

What it means when your cat goes belly up.
In the song When Doves Cry by Prince, there is a line where he sings” Animals strike curious poses.” I had a lot of cats when I was a teenager but they were all outdoor kitties except for one. For this reason, I did not pay attention to certain signals that my felines were giving me. I observed them sleeping in off positions at times but did not give it much thought. Basically what I remember is that when they saw me they came running and meowing because they knew I was the one who would feed them.

Jethro Bodine and Max Bayer Jr. today.
The Beverly Hillbillies was a popular sitcom during the 1970s. It told the saga of widower Jed Clampet who struck oil on his property in the Tennesse hills and became a millionaire. He moved to Beverly Hills California along with his daughter Ellie Mae, his mother inlaw Granny(Daisy Moses) and his nephew Jethro Bodine. The Clampets never lost their country way of thinking and continued to eat food such as possum shanks, deviled buzzard eggs and owl soup. This was the basis for most of the laughs on the sitcom.

Not all pregnant women experience morning sickness and dizziness
Statistics indicate that 70% of pregnant women endure morning sickness which can actually happen at any time of the day. The entertainment business has given a false impression to viewing audiences that 100% of females who are expecting a baby are throwing up and fainting when it is not true. I can recall the first time I was expecting a child and my grandmother told me I was going to be very sick. She shared how she had been walking through the produce market area and threw up when she smelled fish coming from a nearby business.

Grief is for the grieving
I was raised in a community where when someone passed away, the focus was on doing whatever you could to encourage the grieving family who is left behind. It seems that things have changed over the decades or perhaps I am only now becoming acquainted with those of different personalities. Since the death of my husband I have been overwhelmed by individuals who seem to borderline on being narcissistic and attempt to use me as a platform for their own personal sounding board. Some seem to think I am their pet project.

Social Security Widow's Pension Is Not What You May Think
If you are a married woman over age 60 and receiving Social Security retirement or disability benefits there is something you should be aware of. It's important that you be advised that if your husband precedes you in death you might not obtain any of his retirement benefits. At this current time, Social Security pays a one-time lump sum of $255.00 as a burial benefit to a survivor of anyone who dies who has paid into the system. This might be the only money you qualify for if your husband dies. Perhaps you have assumed that you will receive a widow's pension but there are some conditions that apply.

Cannabis had an amazing evolution in America. Top Story - April 2021.
If you are like me, you have probably at some point in time wondered how the Cannabis plant which grows naturally in the earth ended up being illegal in the United States. There is a long and dark path to how we got to where we are today. The hemp plant first arrived in this nation in 1545 after it was introduced to Chile. It was basically used for making ropes and came to North America at Port Royal, Acadia in 1606. By 1619, the demand for hemp had increased to the point that the Virginia Assembly passed legislation requiring colonists to grow the crop.

War: the genius and the folly
War is an American band that hailed from Long Beach, California. The group formed in 1969 and quickly had crossover audiences because they utilized elements of soul, blues, rock, raggae, funk, jazz, Latin, rhythm and blues, and psychedelia. They had a sound that was all their own and their music was both genius and humorous. War transcended racial and cultural barriers by having a multi-ethnic band line-up. The band's music is such that it inspired many mellow moods on a Sunday afternoon. I hope fans enjoy this trip down memory lane with some of their hits. The melodies are sure to move you and the lyric will put a smile on your face.
