A New Era of Warfare: Ukraine’s Bold Strike
On June 1, 2025, Ukraine executed a groundbreaking military operation, codenamed "Operation Spider's Web," targeting deep within Russian territory. This audacious drone assault marked a significant shift in modern warfare, showcasing Ukraine's innovative use of technology and strategic planning.
The operation involved the deployment of 117 drones, striking five Russian airbases: Belaya, Dyagilevo, Ivanovo Severny, Olenya, and Ukrainka. These bases housed Russia's long-range aviation assets, including the Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 bombers. According to Ukraine's Security Service (SBU), the attack damaged or destroyed 41 aircraft, accounting for approximately 20% of Russia's operational long-range bomber fleet. Open-source intelligence confirmed at least 13 aircraft were hit, with satellite imagery revealing significant destruction at the Belaya airbase in Eastern Siberia.
