He was pushing himself past his limits, trying to stay on the road as long as he was, and could see the sign telling him he was at the other rim of Umatilla. Jon knew there was a military base there. Military bases were built to withstand attacks. He hoped for some sign of civilized life there.

Who Was The First Black Superhero In Film
Nobody will ever, and I mean ever, forget the mega-hit, blockbuster success, that was Black Panther. Perhaps it was the timing of the movie, the already storied success of anything with the name Marvel, or some other lame excuse that people have come up with for its stellar performance, and its place in the "billion-dollar club" of movies. Excuses like that are crimes because what Ryan Coogler (director) and Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther/T'Challa) did together was one of the most memorable superhero movies of the entire genre.

Winds whipped loose dirt and ash around outside of a cave as Lizzy tossed and turned in her sleeping bag. Her face was dirty from days of being on the run without finding anywhere to get more water or clean up. A howl in the distance stirred her, causing her to open her eyes and look around. This was the hardest part of the day since the crash, waking up to find it was all real. It reminded her that her grandfather was gone, much like her father. If she couldn't find a way out of the hot zone and back to San Diego, Lizzy was all alone.

Never Fitting In At Work. Top Story - June 2021.
To begin with, I never really felt like I fit in anywhere. Perhaps there are reasons for those feelings that I should have tried to address much, much earlier in life. However, hindsight being 20/20 doesn't do anything for the future, or even the now. Rejects, misfits, renegades, rogues, and loners. That's where I always felt I was in the social constructs of society.

Black Widow The Movie. The Characters Changed Since Iron Man 2.
Finally, after a much longer wait than should have been, and a pandemic, the much wanted and anticipated release of the "Black Widow" movie is getting close enough the excitement has my arm hairs standing on end. Scarlett Johansson is finally getting the standalone movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe she should have gotten after Marvels' Avengers. As a fan of the movies this is big, no huge, no colossal...you get the gist. After first appearing in the MCU in Iron Man 2, we're finally going to get to see a little of where Natasha Romanoff, the totally badass, fiery redhead, Avenger came from and learn a little more in-depth about the origins of the MCU's favorite assassin and ex-Sheild Agent. But, what about the actress?

The 50 Year War That We Lost
Reading, writing, arithmetic, science, and oh, yeah, physical education. These are the things that we raise our kids telling them to focus on in between bouts of video games, movies, television, and our inability to figure out a way to have the energy to spend any real time with them. We depend on luck to raise our kids, luck that they'll do good in school, luck that they'll end up with a great teacher, and luck that we can help provide them with a good education as long as they had the goals in front of them. From the 1950s to today, raising children has become a much more complicated and I dare say, painstaking task, for those that want to keep their kids on a straight and narrow path. Enter in the years of the D.A.R.E. Program, and the colossal failure in the efforts to curb drug use in America.

One Of The Unsolved Murders From My Area Of The World.
Over the years, if you lived in my area, there is one cold case or another that will occasionally become the subject of bar chatter or water cooler banter. Having met and worked with the person that was the only arrest in the case, ever, this one is definitely a case I'll always remember. The unsolved murder of Brenda Marsh and Earl Marsh still haunts the area.

Southwestern Iowa's Most Grizzly Unsolved Murders, The Villisca Axe Murders Of 1912.
In the fall of 2010, in my darkest of places, I traveled to visit a young female friend that attended college in North-Western Missouri. Truthfully, at that time in my life, the long drives on the weekends were a very cathartic experience. During one of those eight-hour drives that I made, I took a side trip. I'd noticed signs and found the distraction online as I plotted different routes. In a small town in South Western Iowa, a town I had never heard of before, there is an allegedly haunted home that was once the scene of a horrifically shocking multiple murder. Before I knew it, I was now entering Villisca, Iowa. I was, down the rabbit hole, as they say. This place is just a bizarre little piece of midwest history but I couldn't help but visit it, to get the feeling of the place, and the sense of dread that comes with knowing about such a dreaded crime. Perhaps, as a professional curiosity, having been in law enforcement, I'm intrigued by such events. Or, perhaps I am like many, just drawn to mysteries and the bizzare.

With a sense of flair and panache, some crimes go down in history because of the way they were done, solved or not. They'll forever be remembered for the style of the crime, the brazenness to pull such a stunt, and they will be remembered for the particular person that would do such a thing. DB Cooper was one of those men, and in a small way, people have all struggled with the term criminal as writers, even investigators, respect his daring.

Immortality Is Within Your Grasp If You Share That Story Floating Around Alone In Your Mind
As I'm sitting here, taking notes on the many different story ideas I have floating around, I realize I would much rather be doing anything else. If you're an outdoorsy person then this is the time of year you understand where I'm coming from. It's 11:11 a.m. and the weather is beautiful outside. The temperatures a comfortable seventy-five degrees and climbing with partly cloudy skies. The skies are wonderful with the clouds right now. The white, fluffy, formations, like that of a batch of cotton balls, reflecting the sun's majestic warming light, stick out against the soft color of blue hanging over our heads.

Kudos To Walmart For Starting The Change To Save Our Environment.
Is Walmart starting a new trend? Hopefully. After doing research on the subject for a recent challenge and learning that plastic bags can take up to 40 years, or in excess of a hundred years depending on their make-up, I was rather excited the other day when I saw a tweet indicating that Walmart would be going bagless by July 1st, 2021. This, unfortunately, was not entirely true. I would however like to commend Walmart on their stance and what would appear to be their commitment to being part of the solution.
