Valentine’s Gay
“Alexa. Play a love song.” “When a maaaaan, loves a womaaaaan....can’t keep his m...” “Alexa. Stop.” It’s 3am on February 13th and I’m scouring the internet for a Valentine’s card to give to my girlfriend of seventeen years. If you’ve never been a gay woman on the hunt for a romantic greetings card to give to another gay woman before, let me talk you through your options: There are vaginas. Everywhere. Some artfully drawn, others...not. Boobs, lots of boobs. The creative use of the word (?) ‘Lez’ is something to behold! Shout out to my personal favourite: “Lez Be An Couple”.

Love Hurts, Alternative Style.
I'm a terrible, hopelessly romantic woman. My favorite movie is Titanic, for gosh's sakes. Ever since I was a young teenager, I craved to have a romantic relationship with a guy. At a tender age, I developed painful crushes on celebrities. My first crush was on Micky Dolenz of The Monkees. I wrote endless love letters and poetry to him, praying for the day we would meet and profess our undying love for each other.

Love in the Time of Social Media
It is easy in this day and age to get caught up in the idealised version of one’s self that we are encouraged through social media (and media in general) to strive towards. If you have not yet reached this ideal level of superficial enlightenment - as I firmly believe very few of us have or ever will - it can be difficult to scroll through social media and see the carefully curated photos of your peers and idols alike. From your perspective they are living the life you wish you had, while you are sitting at home, living and loving vicariously through the characters in your favourite TV show. Never is this self-comparison more potent or more insufferable than on Valentine’s Day. To open your phone and scroll through hundreds of pictures of blissfully happy couples and read cheesy declaration of love after cheesy declaration of love can really be disheartening if you feel that you are missing that love from your life.

10 songs that fit Valentine's Day but not on purpose
What is the matter with this day? I mean what is the point of it? As history says this used to be called the festival of Lupercalia ( sounds way cooler) which included fertility rites and other festive activities. This festival existed to also celebrate the coming of spring, but in the year 496 someone decided to change it's name and apparently, it's meaning as well, because now, as far as I know, it's all about picking the best gift and planing the perfect day for your partner.

Candy Hearts Are Meant To Be Crushed
Valentine’s Day is upon us! I imagine this must be an especially trying day this year, where pandemic restrictions not only prevent you from seeing your beloved, but also severely limit the ways us single people can conspire with our friends to pair up and take advantage of the inevitable couples’ discounts at fancy restaurants.

The Mixtape for the Masochist who Loves Love and is Trying to Love on Themselves More
I took that picture a couple months into quarantine walking home from work when I was holding onto a not-so-thought-out goal of finding love in a pandemic. (To be completely honest, I took the photo in September but the explanation of my sentiment early on in quarantine life is accurate.) I even went as far to make the claim that February 14, 2021 would be my first year having a Valentine. Grandiose dramatic proclamations that I have pledged to stop making. I am sitting here on the aforementioned world-renowned date typing this so your educational guess about my relationship status is accurate. Also the subtitle is exposing my reality in plain sight.

This One's For The (Non) Mutants On Table 9!
"...here's a little moooood music for ya....IT'S VALENTINE'S DAY, WOOOPDEDOOO!" Not many of us would like to admit having an Adam Sandler rage moment, but the reality is that a good many, if not a majority of people can identify with the sentiment he shows in 1998's hit "The Wedding Singer".

Quest for the Ultimate Playlist
I wish I was a soprano or even a musician. Someone who has magic at their fingertips. Alas the only magic I seem to have is the ability of the written word, and writing fiction has always been my favorite pastime. People often think that writers have to get into the mood to write, but with how long I've been writing, I know that the opposite is true. There's always a story at the tip of my tongue or fingertips. I have been known to weave a tale during Christmastime for my nieces whose favorite pastime is getting me to tell them a story. Or to look at a quote online, a writing prompt, and immediately have a fictional story with a believable middle and end, if not beginning.

Not Your Valentine
What is love - Haddaway This is the song that is the beginning of everything. We want love but we don't want to get hurt as we have always been told that love is pain, love hurts and love is hard. This song is literally the prayer of not getting hurt in love - "Please don't be like everyone who played me".

Lets face it; Valentines Day is a nightmare! I mean, why should chocolates and roses and a fancy dinner be a declaration of love to your significant other on this one particular day when you can do those things literally any other day of the year and it'll have an even greater impact because you're not forced by some shoddy marketing campaign to do so, because for some reason, if you don't do those things on February 14th, you are an enormous A-hole.
