The Age Old Question New School vs Old School
There has been a lot of talk within the hip hop and rap community about whether people are feeling the new generation of rappers. Artists like Migos, Future or Lil' Pump get a bad rep from "hip hop purist" who claim their lyrics aren't up to the standards set before them. And to be fair saying Gucci Gang 53 times in your song isn't going to make anyone think you're the lyricist of the year, but is that all there is to hip hop and rap?

'Hamilton' Is Good... For a Musical
Ah, Hamilton. Conceivably the musical of a generation. This groundbreaking "hip-hopera" (hip-hop opera, come on!) shook the Broadway scene, the theatre enthusiasts, and, in turn, the nation. If you're [somehow] not familiar with the musical, let me get you up to speed. Hamilton is an opera, meaning that there are no spoken words throughout the piece. It chronicles the story of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of the United States of America. The nation is on the brink of the Revolution, which excites some-- and worries others. The story is full of drama, laughter, heartbreak, and-- spoiler alert-- death. The opera, written by theatre giant Lin-Manuel Miranda, alternates between traditional Broadway-style song, rap, and R&B. It's really an interesting concept: a boring, over-taught era of history is redone in an exciting, fast-paced musical featuring a style of music that is new to the theatre realm. I won't deny that Hamilton is a masterpiece... for a musical. Let me explain.

All Rap is 'Conscious Rap'. Top Story - November 2017.
"Conscious rap" is defined as rap music which "challenges the dominant cultural, political, philosophical, and economic consensus." Which, if you ask me, sounds a hell of a lot like regular, old rap. The definition continues to state that "conscious rap" songs usually contain "positive, uplifting messages, often delivered over smooth ear-grabbing beats." Which again, to me just sounds like rap.

New Out in Grime Music
Over the past few weeks, it has been hard to catch up with all the sick releases happening. End of October saw Krept and Konan release their two incredible mixtapes 7 Days and 7 Nights. Halloween saw Skepta release his Vicious EP and Metro Boomin & Offset release Without Warning (which actually released without warning). Start of November has brought us new Dave's album Game Over and Wiley announcing a new album for next February whilst releasing a single from it this week.

Kodie Shane — Back From the Future Album Review
So today I will be reviewing Kodie Shane's Back From the Future, who is part of Lil Yachty's Sailing Team. Even though Kodie Shane has been rapping since middle school, she didn’t start to pick up pace in her music career until she really teamed up with Lil’ Yachty and joined the Sailing Team which was the first time I even heard of her. And ever since they dropped the “All In” video on The Fader, I have been listening to all her music mainly from sound cloud but for Back From the Future, I’ll be listening to it on Apple Music.

Lil Uzi Vert – Luv Is Rage 2 Album Review
Lil Uzi Vert dropped “Luv is Rage 2”, and going into the listening of this project, I was pretty much expecting more of what put him on the charts, which for me was a lot of songs that could be played in the club and are part of what makes him a rock star. But, this project also includes a look into his more personal side, where we see that he’s had to confront pain of a broken relationship.

Eminem is many things. He’s a lyrical genius, pop icon, father, owner of Shady Records, and an anti-Trump advocate since 2016. Over the past week, his BET Hip-Hop Awards freestyle has attracted astronomical attention. Many are celebrating him for being so bold about his views on this platform. He even raised a fist for Colin Kaepernick.
