The Skylands
The CHARGER, Its slick steel hull and sharp horn-like front, made it one of the most intimidating ships in the skies. I stood at the loading dock where the ship was moored, looking around as the whole hangar was buzzing with activity. Men and women loaded crates of ammo, food, and medicine onto the ships. Engineers checked over their ships a final time to make sure everything was working properly. Pilots gearing up and making sure their flight suits were in working order.

CHAPTER I CHAPTER II _____________________ A few days later, Avery was finally cleared to leave the city hospital. The call from the nurse was brief, simply describing Avery’s condition as “stable enough.” Normally Nikolai would question the nurse on the fidelity of her lack-luster conclusion, but the memory of Avery’s tears silenced any medical concerns he had. At this point, getting her out of that environment of stress and loneliness would do far more for her than leaving her strapped to a hospital bed.

Prologue
Running, Running with no end in sight. The hallway is dark, the ground hard and rough. Pain shooting up my legs radiating through my joints with every step. My lungs are growing weaker and weaker. Every breath more laborious than the last. It's like I'm suffocating, but I can't stop. If I stop, for even a second. It's going to catch me. I don't know what it is, but I know what it smells like.
