The Long Wait
I’d like to think I gave this man a fond memory, something he talks about even to this day. I might even be right. This is probably a story he shared with friends and family for years. I imagine him at a family barbeque, telling the story, only to be met with groans of “Not again!” Or perhaps it’s the other way around. Maybe every family reunion he’s asked to tell the story about the lady in the pharmacy so a new crop of teens could hear and wish that maybe someday it would happen to them.

Friday Flash – First Date
Friday Flash – First Date Apri 1 2021 7:07pm. I’m sitting at the table near the window. us Parker to book a table with such a lovely view. The first time I read his profile on Match, I knew he would be a man of taste. I can look out into the landscaped garden to my left, and if I look to my right I can see the door. I wonder if this was Parker’s intention, to sit here and watch me make my entrance. Of course, Parker would need to be here first, and he’s not. Still, he’s only seven minutes late. He couldn’t have known I’d be early due to nerves. He’s probably parking the car right now.

The Audition
The year was 2016 and I was a small town girl in New York with hopes of being a star. I was quickly closing out my sixth year in the city with very moderate success. Moderate might be the wrong word. I had been hired three times to speak. Every other role I’d ever taken either didn’t pay or had me stuck somewhere in the background for “background” or “atmosphere.”

Mismatched
We have all been on those dates that we know from the very beginning or soon after that it's doomed. We wonder, how the heck do we get out of it? How do we walk away and keep some bit of dignity intact? How do we conclude the date without causing a scene or ill feelings?

Inadvertent Slip
Regrets – T’was the night before Christmas…I mean literally, it was the night before Christmas. Midnight Mass was being held at our church and I was again among the enthralled worshippers who felt obligated to attend the celebration. I guess it was to be expected of me as I sang tenor with the choir as well as played percussion, however unlike all the others attending, I wasn’t Catholic.

Sex by the Side of the Road
This is one of those times when I’m happy my husband isn’t an avid reader of my pieces, here, unless I put one in front of his face. SO happy. As the senior editor at a publishing company specializing in the manufacturing industry, he has enough on his plate. Thank Buddha.
