FIT FOR A KING
The morning sun burst through the windows of the east tower, past the curtains onto the floor. A tall, thin shadow of a man brought the curtains to a close and breathed deeply at the relief of darkness. He liked the dark; it was where he did his best work. The elder ran a wiry hand through his long white beard. Gone were the days of old and gray. Now there was only old. But the alchemist wouldn't be retiring any time soon. There was too much to be done. Especially now. As he considered the task at hand, there was a knock at the door, which Olevander the Mild quickly rushed to answer.

The Prank. Top Story - January 2023.
"Reset your password” the computer screen flashed. I was about to begin class, and I ignored the prompt. I’m Jerry Lugar, a sixth grade science teacher at Pearl Middle School. This period I was teaching the ‘troubled’ students. I assumed they had done something to the computer to activate the prompt, so I’d deal with it after class. Every day they’d play another prank.

She had always known that Fluffy was a particularly vocal cat, always meowing and purring for attention. But this was different. This time, Fluffy was saying actual words.

Growth is the Journey
My first memory is of strange, bulbous eyes inspecting me. The creature floated above the sand by moving its thin appendages and introduced itself as a fish. I was so small then, little more than a mound of pebbles, really, and no one paid me any mind. I observed the desolate plain of the seafloor endlessly, receiving the rare but welcome visitor from time to time.

Cockiness and it's evocative nature
Hello, you may want to reset your password for this one. This story is not for prudes or the morally judgmental (I can be a bit of both sometimes). Our very naughty Charles of Unsplash is clearly none of the above. His use of the plant and measuring ruler stick thing(y), I found profoundly metaphorically hilarious.

Beyond the Rivalry
It was a hot and humid summer day, and the old courthouse was sweltering. Inside, the hall was filled with the sound of raised voices and heated argument. The air was thick with tension, as two rival governmental parties went head to head in a battle of words and wills.
