When we think of movie franchises, it is hard to ignore Star Wars. From the time the first film graced our screens in 1977, the space opera saga has grown into the second highest grossing franchise of all time, beating out the likes of Harry Potter and James Bond, which house some of the most iconic films the world of cinema has seen in recent years. This alone should speak volumes of how successful this franchise has grown - and now, even after 9 full feature films, 2 anthology films, eight animated TV series', and a brand new live action series, it doesn't show any signs of slowing down. Admittedly, Star Wars has had its fair share of problems in the recent past and while the future looks rather uncertain for how it will be proceeding, nobody can deny its rightful place as one of the most influential film franchises to ever exist.

What is the Appeal of Star Wars?
On Thursday December 20th the final film in the Star Wars saga will hit theaters. Star Wars Rise of the Skywalker will be the last film in the final trilogy completing the 9 film series. But unlike the other brands in the Disney bank like Pixar or Marvel. Star Wars seems to be at a bit of a crossroads. Disney has managed to try and ramp up the Lucas Films production pipeline to match the other juggernaut brands under its watch. Pixar before it was acquired used to release their movies more sporadically. But now we typically get at least one new release a year and sometimes even two a year. Marvel managed to produce a new movie each year but after 2010 they’ve only been ramping up their slate going from just one a year to two and now we’re living in an era where we see 3 marvel movies released every year and audiences still hasn’t grown tired of it.

I Don't Like Star Wars
I don't like Star Wars. That's the crux of this article, pretty much. Just by the title alone, you have already formed an opinion on me. That is the power of Star Wars, the proof of the immense reach that this franchise has on popular culture. If anything, Star Wars is the rare kind of beast that transcends popular culture and simply becomes part of every day life. It is a completely unavoidable, unstoppable, unkillable monstrosity and I do not care for it.
