Tarkov Just Changed the Game
(Intro) So, on March 4th, BSG released an update with the patch notes giving a general overview about changing their approach to how they handle weapon attachments and the stats associated with them. And with no specific examples in the notes to give players an idea of what they mean, I read those notes and didn’t think too much of them. That is, until the weekend where I went in and was just messing around with some weapon builds. And man, the changes across the board are way more noticeable than I initially was thinking they would be. There is a now a serious argument for running some of your weapons loud if you want the most recoil reduction possible. Suppressors are not just the solution to every problem. Alongside some pistol grips now providing a slight benefit to recoil reduction, and generally less ergonomics. But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. Let's talk about the changes BSG have made to weapon attachments, because they really have fundamentally changed the game across the board. We now have to relearn how to make effective weapons. But the nice thing is that there is more freedom to how your weapons will look visually. Variety has always been the spice of life, and it’s nice to see Tarkov finally embrace that mantra in the game that kind of started it for weapon customization. But whether that means players are going to like the changes, that remains to be seen.

Tarkov is a Forever Game
(Intro) Tarkov is a product that has been around for a long time. People have been aware of this game since as early as 2016; and over the course of those ten years (God time flies these days), EFT has been iterated on and changed so much. The core gameplay loop has stayed largely the same, but with tons of new tools at our disposal, locations to explore, and reasons to stay around. Despite all the issues and problems this game has had over the years, many still enjoy the experience and have the desire to keep playing. And even though there have been people who aren’t interested anymore for one or more reasons, Tarkov has a dedicated and passionate group of people willing to keep playing even when the state of the game may not have been in the best state. Tarkov simply offers experiences and replay value that many games struggle to even scratch the surface at. Over the years, the ways in which an individual can boot up Tarkov and play the game has only grown as well. So today, I wanted to go over what makes Tarkov a potential forever game; how all the work they have done allows people to play this game as long as they have, and potentially much more into the future as long as the servers are still up and operational, of course. From content and expansions to different modes of play, Tarkov has sowed the seeds for this game to run a very long life; one even longer than it already has been. EFT could be a forever game for many, no matter how many times we have to start over.

Marathon is A Complicated Mess: Here’s Why
(Intro) Marathon releases in a few days and before its official launch, Bungie has allowed players to download an earlier build of the game, so we can test the game and stress the servers. And it seems like a lot of people have been interested in this game. Which to be fair, has been for the wrong reasons, mostly. From art theft, to troubled development across the game’s life, as day one rapidly approaches, I felt it was important to see what this game is offering and give my two cents on what the game most likely is going to pan out once it does release to the masses. Because even though this is a server slam, what we see is pretty much the full game minus the rest of the content available for day one, whatever that ends up looking like. And over the course of this weekend, the server slam has been smooth in some areas but confusing and questionable in others. I’m genuinely curious what others have thought if they have put time into the game, but for the most part, I’ve felt only… okay. It’s not awful, but it’s not doing anything to seriously iterate on the formula that makes it a must play. But let’s talk about Marathon, because it’s kind of a complicated and mixed bag. For a lot of different reasons.

Tarkov’s 2026 Roadmap is Kind of Meager
(Intro) The 1.0 release of Tarkov has been with us since November, and since its launch, things have felt rather quiet from the end of BSG. For a while, there wasn’t a ton of communication from them about what to expect in 2026 for the game in terms of updates, patches, and what to expect next. As if right on queue, last week BSG released a roadmap for the year showcasing what we can look forward to. And to be brutally honest, upon initially looking at it, there isn’t a ton going on. Or at least, not as much as I and maybe others were expecting. There are a myriad of reasons why this might be the case which we’ll get into later, but for now, I figured even though I am late to this party, it’s still worth quickly going over the roadmap and seeing what’s coming that is exciting, concerning and everything else in between. This first year after the full release will be very important for Tarkov; it could be a make or break for the game as a whole.

Who is Tarkov Even For Anymore?
(Intro) Tarkov has always been seen as a hardcore game. Its entire identity has been defined by this idea that EFT was always trying to break the mold and go places not many other games have gone before. Losing your kit if you get taken out by AI or other players, this emphasis on complexity and trying to create a grounded and immersive experience, while also creating a gameplay loop with some of the highest highs and lowest lows imaginable. And yet, here we are, after the official launch of the game, and things have never felt more polarizing than ever. So much back and forth over who this game is even designed for; with elements for both casual and hardcore players existing in the same space. For years, this conversation about the casual market slowly being weeded out was always around anytime BSG introduced a change or new mechanics that just made the game harder. So, casuals felt like they were being pushed out. And then on the other hand, the endgame for Tarkov is some of the grindiest; most RNG induced experiences many have come to loathe. Even those who are dedicated to the cause and trying to complete as much of the game as they can. So, if Tarkov has or had points where it was trying to cater to both markets of players, at this point a genuine question I think is worth talking about: who is Tarkov even for at this point?

Tarkov’s First Official Cross-Over is Minimal but Cool
(Intro) The last thing I ever expected from Tarkov and especially BSG of all games and companies was a cross-over with not only another game, but one that took heavy inspiration from this property. And while it’s only some new event quests, just the fact that BSG was willing to work with another studio at an official capacity is really cool. And what I am talking about specifically is the cross over between Tarkov and Escape From Duckov, a fun smaller single player extraction shooter from a development team called Team Soda. As someone who watched a bunch of videos of people playing Duckov, it looks like a really solid entry for a single-player extraction game, which we need more of. So today, I kind of wanted to just quickly talk about the cross-over in Tarkov, how this maybe came to be, and what this could potentially mean for future crossovers with other titles and what this might mean for EFT going forward. Because BSG being cool with other studios and leaning on them for some new ideas and items being put into their own game will only benefit them in the long run if executed correctly.
