'Sami Blood' Is a Swedish Coming-of-Age Movie for the Ages
In an time fraught with divisive politics, hardcore nationalism, and the ever-present specter of racial prejudice, the powerful Swedish drama Sami Blood acts as a prescient ode to the value of tolerance and the importance of identity. Fresh off of winning the prestigious 2017 European Lux Prize, the feature debut from up-and-coming helmer Amanda Kernell is raking in accolades from critics and audiences worldwide.

'Paddington 2' Is Perfect
I saw Paddington 2 and fell in love with it. And by fell in love with, I mean that I want to buy this movie a Snuggie for Valentine's day or something. It is rare for me to walk out of a movie and have zero criticisms, but there was nothing in Paddington 2 that I disliked. Simply stated: this is a perfect movie. Whimsical, hysterical, emotional and brilliant. You could show Paddington 2 to a room full of the most cynical, cold-hearted moviegoers and it would probably melt their hearts in an instant.

'Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle' Review
Hayden's Overall Grade: B+ I want to start this review off by saying I really wasn't sure what to expect when taking my seat in the theater. I had watched the trailers for Jumanji 2 and and was genuinely looking forward to the reboot/sequel. I loved the original and I believe it was one of Robin Williams' best films. We are in a day and age when Hollywood is all about sequels and franchises and they can end up being hit or miss. In recent years, we have seen it work out with Creed bringing the Rocky franchise back and we have seen it fail with the recently released Mummy movie. I was hoping a childhood relic like Jumanji wouldn't join the list of franchises ruined by a sequel.

Film Review: 'The Post'
The Post is one of the most intriguing and entertaining films of 2018. The film is directed by Steven Spielberg. It's also an Oscar-winning contender this year. It's a real story that depicts turmoil of The Washington Post reporters. The Post reporters attempt to expose the truth of The Pentagon Papers.

Movie Review: 'Act & Punishment'
I will admit, I didn’t pay close enough attention to what Pussy Riot was really about. In my very Midwestern American way, I passively dismissed Pussy Riot simply because the name made me a little uncomfortable. I certainly could not talk about Pussy Riot on the radio on my talk show so I simply ignored the phenomenon. Now, I wish I hadn’t been so stupid. The new documentary Act & Punishment lays out the case that Pussy Riot is far more important than I had, in my limited worldview, ever imagined.

'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Provides Fun Scenes, But Fails to Give a Clear, Exciting Story
**SPOILERS FOR Star Wars: The Last Jedi*** Ah, The Last Jedi. Some people loved it, some people hated it, and some are like me, who had mixed feelings about Episode VIII in the famous Star Wars franchise. And even though you've probably already seen the movie, I'll be giving my spoiler-filled review of the film.

A Review of 'Percy Jackson and the Olympians'
A common theme in my reviews is my ability to be unfashionably late when it comes to culture and media. Today’s case in point: Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. My history with these books goes back a decade to when I was twelve. The middle school I went to would give each of the students a book at the end of each school year to read during summer vacation; the summer between sixth and seventh grade the book was The Lightning Thief, the first book in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. I started reading it but never finished for some reason probably because my twelve-year-old self was uninterested because the protagonist was a boy and there was no romance or pretty dresses. Flash forward ten years: In recent months, one of the people I follow on Pinterest has been pinning a lot of Percy Jackson related content which grabbed my attention and piqued my interest in the series. I then found an audiobook of The Lightning Thief on YouTube and had it on while I was doing work.

Review: Darkest Hour
It's not often that we have more than one film that focuses on the same subject that are released so close to each other. June 2017 saw the release of 'Churchill', where the lead character was played very well by Brian Cox. Sadly, there wasn't much else exceptional after that. I think the choice of story was a bad one as it was during the end of World War II, where Churchill was not at his strong point.

Movie Review: 'Proud Mary'
Proud Mary has the ambition and the movie star to become a franchise. The question it leaves behind, however, is whether or not the people behind it have the talent and investment to make it something more than just a stock action movie. For my money, other than star Taraji P. Henson, Proud Mary comes up quite short. Other than the star, there is nothing memorable or particularly special about Proud Mary.
