Abyssal Tomb
Beams of soft moonlight cut through the thick grey carpet high in the skies above Mill City, Iowa. The glow reflected off of the towering glass skyscrapers, pushing high through the skyline and looming over the sprawling forest just outside of the metropolitan goliath. The same soft radiance also mirrored off of the nearby Twin Lake, hidden in the untouched wilderness beyond the city. An equally gentle mist rested over the lake, stretching out onto it’s grassy banks and into the trees bordering the small, natural oasis. The silence of the night was only broken by chirping crickets and rustling in the thick brush as my brothers and I made our way through the woods.

Skin of a Living Thought
Skin of a Living Thought You’ve heard of them. Those sinking towns clinging to the Chesapeake Bay’s coastline, far from the main thoroughfares, lost to time and uncharted on maps. You know about them, but have you thought about them? Perhaps on your travels you briefly wonder what kind of people can make a living there, why they stay, and characteristic of all small towns, what secrets they tell each other and keep from outsiders. Bardow is one of those unique places where there are no secrets, at least none that everyone isn’t in on. Julian and Marcy Clipperton would tell you of all the mysteries they beheld in that little slice of nowhere as they once told me, but no one hears from them anymore.

Poachers Folly
The sun hadn’t begun to lighten the sky behind the Maya Mountains to the east as the truck slowed to a halt on the old forestry road. They were still over a kilometer from their final destination, the Chalillo Dam, but from this point they would continue without the truck.

THE LAKE & ME!!!
I couldn’t believe that my only sole relative left me an inheritance, that was defiantly a WTF moment in my life… was I expecting that? Nope, & you know why because my mother didn’t even know she had a sister. SURPRISE TO US ALL!!! She was a distant gossip in the family & by this point in my life everyone was dead. It was just me and my animals.

Edward and the Eldritch Horrors
“Thank you everybody for coming out tonight!” The crowd cheered as we prepared for our final song of the night. I looked over at our lead singer, Isaac; there was a massive grin on his face. We had so many fans packed in one area that could barely fit inside the bar we were playing in. It was just like what Isaac would tell me back when we were in sixth, maybe seventh grade.

Garden of Shadows
October 13, 1896 The loud cries of labor echoes down the corridors of the stone hospital that stood just on the edge of town. In a sparsely lit room, laid a woman on a barely-there cot. Her legs were braced by two other women, wearing long dresses and aprons. Another sat below her, giving encouragement as the screaming woman let out another anguished scream.

Haint Blue
Pawley’s Island in the off-season was unexpectedly gloomy. When Danielle had booked her vacation, she’d been guided by the lure of photos of vacation homes combined with a price that seemed too good to be true. Turns out, she should have paid attention to the “too good to be true” part. Instead of the sunny vistas shown in the photos on the website, the ocean and sky were slate grey. The South Carolina coast in the depths of winter was not a paradise. The water was cold, the air had more chill than she had hoped, but the locals were nice. Her cottage by the ocean also lived up to the interior shots, and she loved the cute sky blue accents it had around the door jambs and windows.
