La Deriva
This is an annotated transcript of the notes I jotted in my moleskin notebook over the course of the last three years. New paragraphs indicate different times throughout the day I was inspired to write my inner monologue. I’ve added nothing to the original text; what you are about to read is what you would’ve encountered had the book slipped out of my pocket on the bus and you decided to amuse yourself with the abstract reality of a stranger.

When the Growing is Easy
Today, my pandemic porch garden finally sprouted. To be fair, it's not so much a garden as it is a thin layer of dirt mixed with rocks mixed with the discarded bottle caps of residents past. Scratch down half an inch and you'll find concrete. It's an unfortunate bald spot on the front porch of my apartment.

One Decision Can Change Your Life for Forever
From the moment I walked into the store, I had sensory overload that I didn’t know if I walked into a bookstore or a garage sale. The lights were bright and color was everywhere, and the piping hot chai latte I was holding in my right hand waiting for it to cool off so I could at least sip the taste of deliciousness wasn’t helping me calm down either. I felt lost, completely alone and overwhelmed with the direction my life was headed, and I thought coming here would at least be a good starting point on where to go next. Oops, guess I was wrong about that.

The Real Tales of an Intern
“Hello, who is this?” “Sam, it’s me, Chad”. Sam thought…which Chad was this? Then she remembered. Of course: “How are you?” “I am good. You?” “I am cool. What’s up with you?” “I am trying to sort out my internship.” “Any heads up?” “Yes, I got a slot in the public hospital downtown.” “Don’t go there.” “Why?” “The ambiance is gloomy. You don’t want to end up with depression while interning.” “Do I have a choice? You know how difficult it is to get a slot. And it is not as if internships are optional. I have to hold on to this until I find something else.” “Okay, keep me posted.” “Thanks for checking in.” “You are welcome.” Chad hung up.
