Does Your Life Imitate Your Habits?

Sherron was frustrated to have to wait almost an hour in the manager’s office at work. She was already behind in her duties today. Hearing Mrs. Simon’s voice as it got closer, she was issuing orders to one of her co-workers.

She entered her office in a full red pantsuit, that send Sherron’s heart racing. When she wears red, hell is behind it. As her thoughts returned to reality, she saw Marcy and Clive, the rest of her team, walk in behind her.

“Damn!” she said under her breath, her eyes were on them.

Mrs. Simon said, sitting down to face them, “You are late three times this week.”

“And I stayed and completed all of my tasks,” Sherron responded quickly.

“What is going on?” she asked, her eyes on Clive and Marcy.

“I don’t have a car anymore,” Sherron informs her.

“The repo men took it,” Clive adds.

Sherron sent him a dirty look. He returned it.

Mrs. Simon nods, reflecting on the stories circulating about her borrowing, not paying, and owing everyone.

“The building you reside in has four of your co-workers residing there, can’t you carpool with them?” Mrs. Simon asked.

Sherron’s eyes popped as she furled and unfurled her brows, wondering how she could have known.

“They leave too early,” Sherron’s anger said, her eyes swaying from Clive to Marcy.

“We want to avoid traffic, so we left home at six thirty every morning,” Marcy informs.

“But you are thirty minutes away,” Mrs. Simon said.

“If we leave at seven, traffic will be so bad that we will get to work late,” Marcy explained.

“So, you would rather get here an hour early than a few minutes late?” Mrs. Simon asked, her head swaying between them.

“I don’t want to come to work late every morning,” Marcy states.

“Damn,” Mrs. Simon said, her eyes on Sherron. “I like the way you think. You were raised to get wherever you should on time, ah?”

“Yes, ma’am,” Marcy answered. “My parents demand that I do.”

“And her mom did the opposite? I heard you grew up together,” Mrs. Simon said, her eyes still on Sherron.

“She allowed her to do what she wanted,” Marcy recalls the many issues they had growing up with her tardiness, borrowing, and not paying.

“I also heard that you owe every one of your co-workers here. Is that true?”

Sherron fumed, breathing in and out quickly, then said, “I will pay them back and get back my car.”

“How, if you don’t have a job?” Mrs. Simon asked, staring at her.

“You are firing me?’ Sherron demands.

“Not yet,” Mrs. Simon said, staring directly into her eyes.

Silence circled around with thoughts and ideas raging in hearts, minds, and souls.

Then Mrs. Simon informs, “Thomas Hill, your building owner, and I are friends. Your rent and other bills are always late, too. How did your life begin to imitate your habits? The bad ones, too.”

Clive and Marcy stared at her as she sighed several times, then said, “I am just living the life I know.”

“But it’s harming and hindering your livelihood, reputation, and success,” Mrs. Simson educates.

“I guess I will have to find another way to live,” Sherron vowed as three pairs of eyes stared her down.

“That’s it?” Marcy demands from her.

“I wasn’t aware that my life was imitating my habits. I can’t live my life your way or anyone else’s,” her pain said.

Mrs. Simon sighed, staring at her, then counseled, “It’s time to change, girl, because those habits are headed in failure’s direction, and only you can stop them.”

I know lots of humans whose lives mirror their bad habits, which negatively affect them and contribute to failure.

Don’t let your bad habits imitate your life and destroy it.
