Remus
The top of my dog's head, his keppie, has a soft patch of fur between his two floppy velvet ears. When he was an adopted dachshund puppy, he would curl his coffee bean body up in my crisscrossed legs for warmth. I would slowly pet the soft spot on his head, work my finger over the bridge of his nose and back again.

"The Awesome Day"
The very sad day our hearts' broke is March 7th, 2021 at 7:00 A.M. My Six year old sweet gorgeous grey Maine Coon Mix fur baby cat suffered for months with bladder block and kidney fail. After going to the vet getting a catheter, diapers and medicine he seemed OK in January. Then we had a snowstorm and when it started to melt on a nicer day in March we harnessed him and let him and beautiful orange cream Norwegian Forrest sister play outside in our front yard on their leashes. My husband suddenly noticed him licking the snow, pulling him away, but where the malicious neighbors whom also had 3 cats, so they had the litter to clean up their truck's oil leaks' on the pavement where it was parked. He told them repeatedly to clean that up. This was on Friday and we found out he was seriously poisoned that day and I called the Veterarian's office and found out the emergency Vet was out of town for the weekend and the Vet Doctor wouldn't be in his office until Monday morning.

Love at first sight
My association with a pet started when I was around 6 years old. Although most of my student life was in a boarding school, still my days during holidays were the most memorable ones. The credit goes to the furry little Pomeranian (Breed doesn't matter) we had, named Jimmy. Every single day of my holidays, I still cherish because I never felt alone even without no human presence around me most of the time. My bonding with Jimmy was of a friend and a younger brother and this bonding stayed till the end. Those memories still brighten my boring days.

That Time a Kitten Saved Me
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I have noticed something about home offices. A lot of them have pets. I, for one, absolutely love going on zoom meetings with folks who I know have pets. It has become an important part of office culture to introduce our peers to our furry coworkers, and I am absolutely living for it. As is the case for many of us, I have been working remotely for over a year now. Remote work suits me. I am the type of person who is most productive while in a comfortable space, and of course, nearby my children (not one of them human). As 2021 crawled by, my life has changed enormously. As most of my life tends to be, my story can be begun with an interaction I had with an animal.

They’ve both won several individual categories so far tonight, but this, this was the big one. Everyone knows they have both been campaigning hard and the tension is high.

When a Rescue Animal Chooses You
I’m a firm believer that rescue animals make the best companions animals. There’s some debate as to how much cognition cats and dogs actually have. However, rescue animals seem to realize how awful their lives once were versus how good their lives are once they’ve found a loving home.

Heart warming dog adopting.
When we made the decision to move to the suburbs, we knew the extra space would allow us the opportunity to open our home to another dog in need. After some searching, I came across Cooper on Susie Senior Dogs’ Instagram. The post said that Cooper’s owner had died when he was 4 years old, he was now 10 and had been in the shelter for SIX years. At first glance, Cooper was a shy dog, he would rather be in the safety of his kennel than meet new people. This caused him to be overlooked again and again. However, from the photos, you could see a kindness in his eyes; this struck a chord with me. I think anyone who has ever been criticized for being shy can relate, sometimes you just need someone to believe in you and we were going to be that for Cooper.

Simba and Binx
My wife and I have two cats, Simba and Binx. I got Simba about five years ago, a mewing little fur ball that was malnourished. Simba started affectionate towards people but as he grew older he became more and more distrustful of strangers. I attribute that to how his life started and could very well have ended, but I can't say for sure. When I picked up Simba to take home, I was watching my sister's cat Ninja. Ninja was a big black cat, very affectionate, and wasn't bothered by Simba as I was expecting but he did try sniffing Simba at first. Simba put up with it until he got to the base of his tail and then he turned around and “slapped” Ninja in the face. The look on both of their faces cracked me up so hard! Ninja and this tiny brown and black striped kitten competed for my lap too, they both wanted my full attention.

Poppy
I walked into a teeny-tiny, run-down animal shelter without a clue that I would walk out with my soulmate. Piles of papers and files stacked on the shelves behind the front desk, more files and papers piled high on the desk, a small bench in one corner, and peeling linoleum flooring greeted me as I ventured in. The older woman behind the desk greeted me and asked what I was looking for. I paused and asked if I could just take a look around. She waved me on. I wandered around the small square building, three rooms full of cats just… out, being cats, a couple rooms with puppies, then I wandered outside and walked a bit around the yard, finding some dogs in outdoor kennels.
