My cousin and I were raised like siblings

We always had lots of fun

One day, he was arrested

And our good times were done

Eager and counting the days

Until he returned to the family

I knew there would be changes

But I was not prepared for what would be

Chain-smoking and pacing back and forth

Eating and drinking us out of house and home

Sleeping all day, up all night

And then he began to roam

Missing household items, money, and food

We knew he had returned to doing drugs

Which would do none of us any good

Cursing and threatening were the new normal

We had to send him away

With the changes that occurred

We couldn't allow him to stay
