Dad’s Old Red Truck

I remember the smell of his old Chevy truck

Tasted the oil as it burned in my eyes

Saw the smoke rise, as he threw it in gear, he always smiled and acted surprised

I remember how exciting it felt, when he leaned over and gave me the keys

I can still hear him yelling, “drive safety,” to me, hard to believe he’s been gone almost a year
