A New Era of Warfare: Ukraine’s Bold Strike On June 1, 2025, Ukraine executed a groundbreaking military operation, codenamed "Operation Spider's Web," targeting deep within Russian territory. This audacious drone assault marked a significant shift in modern warfare, showcasing Ukraine's innovative use of technology and strategic planning. The operation involved the deployment of 117 drones, striking five Russian airbases: Belaya, Dyagilevo, Ivanovo Severny, Olenya, and Ukrainka. These bases housed Russia's long-range aviation assets, including the Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 bombers. According to Ukraine's Security Service (SBU), the attack damaged or destroyed 41 aircraft, accounting for approximately 20% of Russia's operational long-range bomber fleet. Open-source intelligence confirmed at least 13 aircraft were hit, with satellite imagery revealing significant destruction at the Belaya airbase in Eastern Siberia.

On June 1, 2025 Ukraine conducted a massive drone attack on strategic bomber airfields deep in Russia. So deep the drones had to be delivered in secret double ceiling containers by long-haul trucks. The operation had been planned for 1.5 years in complete secrecy and had been personally supervised by President Zelenskyy. The drone attack was incredibly successful as Ukraine claims it has destroyed 41 bombers, or roughly one-third of Russian strategic bomber fleet. Russia has downplayed the operation results claiming that only five bombers had been destroyed.
