Joe Biden is the Perfect President
There are writers on both sides of the political spectrum that could very finely articulate why Joe Biden feels like a consolation prize who will likely be nothing more than a stop gap president of otherwise very little consequence.

The President Isn’t Supposed to Be This Powerful
The powers of the president are clearly listed in Article II of the Constitution. It’s surprisingly short and specifically gives the president the power to command the armed forces, enforce the laws created by Congress, veto legislation, convene/adjourn Congress, receive ambassadors, grant pardons, enter into treaties, appoint employees to federal agencies, and appoint judges. The last 3, though, are supposed to need Senate approval.

A Cup Of "Joe" To Go
In a world that is constantly changing where does this nation stand? When we consider the tumultuous last four years where everything that could go wrong did was reason enough to realize this nation was indeed in serious trouble. Mistakes that we let happen. Yes, we the people allowed the past Administration, Trump, from day one to carry on in an unethical, moronic and egotistical manner. Un Presidential in every way that almost brought down this nation. In complicit to the torrents of disasters were many Republicans in Congress. They aligned themselves with the train wreck of the Trump Administration.

Hail to the chief
If you watched the Inauguration events for Joe Biden, on January 20 you probably heard something that you gave no thought to. The day and evening events for the 46th President of the United States included the song “ Hail to the Chief”. What you might not have realized, however, is that it has been a while since we have heard this song as it was not utilized much during the previous administration. President number 45, Donald Trump rarely used the traditional melody to introduce himself when making public appearances. He opted instead for his own pep rally music when he spoke in front of his supporters.

On The Valley of Failure
To the Former President Donald Trump, Oh Mr. Trump, how far you have fallen. If each person’s worth was measured somewhere between the tallest mountain and the deepest crevice; you Mr. Trump, would certainly be plummeting into the unfathomable Mariana Trench.

Dear President Trump,
So, you wanted to be president, huh? How’d that work out?? Ya know, I’ve actually followed your life for a while now, but only because it has been entirely unavoidable. Your name is everywhere. The first time I became aware of Trump in my memory was when it was painted on the side of a plane I was flying on from LaGuardia to Logan. There was a flight every day from New York to Boston then, maybe even several. The tickets were cheap, dad said, otherwise he would’ve avoided it because of something he knew about the realty business in New York and something about the practices of the Trump family. Yada-yada-yada, I was too young to care, I was off to the Cape to see my Baba, but it was funny that the plane had your name on it. I thought about whether I would put my own name on the side of a plane if I went ahead and started an airline company in the future. I decided it was a bit much, really, even at 11. It would be weird to see MATSON on the side of a plane, but I admired the bravado. I thought you must be pretty successful and important of a guy.

An open letter to 45
Goodbye Donald, I remember watching the election results in 2016, and it felt like watching the Titanic sink. I cried as I thought about all the people in my life who were not white wealthy men, and all the people who were going to suffer in the years to come because of your policies and beliefs, and I knew we were fucked as a nation. It felt like an alternate universe and it still does. I spent the next day in bed, crying, scrolling on social media. I saw post that said "we would be fine." I was told I was overreacting, I knew in my gut I was not.

Dear Donald Trump,
When you first were elected, I remember coming home from my job at the news station and sitting in my room in silence as I tried to grapple with the fact that you’d won. I felt like everyone around me had not taken the election seriously, like there was no way that a reality television personality known for his solid gold toilet could win the absolute most important seat in the free world. But, then you did. A string of group texts and long phone calls started as I listened to my friends, mostly BIPOC folks who were also a part of the LGBTQ community spoke about their fears. I couldn’t do anything but try to imagine how the next four years would go.
