fact or fiction
Is it a fact or merely fiction? Fact or Fiction explores travel myths to help you avoid making that wrong turn.
A chilly Solo Trip.
Sometimes you find yourself believing you already know everything, right? You’re young, you’ve survived this long getting into trouble without your parents finding out. Doing all kinds of “ungodly” activities you will absolutely not be telling your grand children one day. And every now and then, you just do something do impeccably bold that you are suddenly the topic of all of your friends and family for weeks. This time, instilling the fear of yourself being kidnapped to all of your friends, coworkers and loved ones. The first person you would tell, is your favorite coworker, they’re your safe space at work right? There shouldn’t be too much cold hard judgement there. But then you tell them, and they look at you with this blank expression you’re dying to try and read before they squeal at you “What? Are you CRAZY?”. You just told them you’re going to Alaska on your own to meet some guy you met online all by yourself, essentially flying across the country through various airports and cities. Alright, okay, cool now you are afraid to tell anyone else but you of course, still are determined to go. You see that you have about 13 days left until your flight that you booked. You even opened a credit card to be sure you could go. Smart right? We’ll determine that later.

Treasure in a Bottle
While visiting my bestie in the Cape Cod area of Massachusetts, I was taking an early-morning walk along the oceanside beach with my two dogs. I had just finished a ghost-writing project and was taking a much needed break before re-reading it and making any necessary revisions. There was no one else on the beach but me, my dogs and the birds; the seals were nowhere to be seen as the day hadn't warmed up yet. I was pondering what my bestie had told me about the history of the area. It was said, and many artifacts had been found on the ocean side of the Cape, that many a Pirate Ship and others as well had sunk in the area. In the early spring, many ship parts washed up onto the beaches in some areas and treasure sometimes can be found, but at what cost? The waters are very dangerous and many attempts at diving for the treasure without the proper equipment had brought death to those that have tried. This is all real and true and many still try to get to these ships each year. These were Pirate waters at one time and many still speak of possible untold treasures buried in the area.

Salvation
The scorching sun announced an imminent death sentence. The dry hairs on the lonely sailor’s arms sizzled and singed, and the skin of his salty, matted forearms were practically on fire; but the man no longer cared. He had already reached the point beyond caring days ago. Dehydration caused his eyelids to disobey its natural habit of lowering to protect his vulnerable eyes, his nose hurt as he inhaled the salty air, and his bloated tongue threatened to retreat into his cotton-dry throat. Yet, there he sat, surrounded by endless water that could never be touched, even though he knew the end was near.
