Tuesday’s Child
Hi, my name is- well you don’t need to know my name yet, you just need to know my journey. It’s a beautiful day for flying and I feel like the luckiest kid in the world. On Tuesday morning most children are sitting in a classroom getting ready to do vocabulary homework, but not me. Today I’m on my way to Los Angeles, California for the first time ever. Where will this trip take me? Adventure? Disney Land? Maybe education. Where ever this trip takes me, I’m really looking forward to it, I’m just so excited and I don’t know what to say.

My Hip Hop Queens
”This is a man’s world, thank you very much - Ice Cube But it wouldn’t be a damn thing without a woman’s touch” - Yo-Yo. These quotes are a battle of dialogue between rappers Ice Cube and Yo-Yo on his song titled “It’s a Man’s World” from his debut solo album Amerikkka’s Most Wanted. The song itself is a debate about where women stand in the male dominated world of Hip Hop. Women play just as prominent a role in Hip Hop as men and for this Women’s History Month I wanted to write an article paying homage to all of my female heroes of Hip Hop who inspire me as a writer and lyricist.

Like What You See
The mirror showed a reflection that wasn’t my own. Boy was it ever so scary. As I stared in this mirror my heart raced at a speed of what felt like a thousand miles an hour. My mind was racing with a million questions, the biggest one being why. I was looking in the mirror, but there was no reflection of self looking back at me. Instead, it was the face of a beautiful woman with black hair that went down to her shoulders. She was wearing a cardigan with black and white stripes that was covered in dirt.

Vocal Challenges: We All Win
It’s always exciting isn’t it? As a Vocal writer we see a new challenge posted and we can’t wait to get those home keys rolling so we can type our way into winning a challenge. It’s actually very fun to me. I love entering these challenges as much as I can to go for the gold, but naturally there is a big dose of disappointment that comes with these challenges. Let’s be real, 98% of us have never won a challenge, another 80% of us have never even been a runner up. As much as it seems like a big let down when you don’t win a challenge, I’m here to tell you why no matter how many times you don’t end up being a finalist in a challenge, you are still winning.
