The spectrum of Mental Health disorders is incredibly vast; we showcase the multitude of conditions that affect mood, thinking and behavior.
That Little Voice in Your Head Is Real
In my last post I gave a little introduction to myself that included a brief overview of my experience of being a dancer and how it made me who I am. I would recommend giving that one a read if you haven’t already. As I said, I am a dancer (despite my lack of actual classes at the moment). Once a dancer always a dancer. The many years of classes and exams made me a very tough and enduring person. But it also gave me the chance to view myself in a way that most people won’t. There is a large difference between looking at yourself in a mirror in the bathroom and standing in a leotard and tights in front of a wall of mirrors and needing to critique the shapes you are making with your body. There is a lot of self-criticism that comes with being a dancer, and this criticism can become all-consuming if you have the predisposition to obsessive behaviour and thought, which I do.

Borderline for Beginners
Any information given is based upon my experience and is not to replace medical or psychiatric care. Borderline personality disorder is a complex mental illness that is often misunderstood. Often, a diagnosis does not come without a lot of misdiagnoses and frustration. The stigma surrounding this particular mental illness is one of the most severe. People with borderline personality disorder are often treated unfairly by doctors and those in the mental health system because of the lack of education surrounding the subject.

Truth, Lies, and Mental Illness
Some things are better left unsaid. But which things? And said, or unsaid, to whom? Figuring out how much of our deepest inner workings we should disclose to others can be difficult at the best of times, but there's a whole other layer of complexity when there's mental illness involved.

The Mental Illness Fear Factor
Sadly, those who are uninformed often fear mental illness. They believe that it's unknown, unpredictable, and potentially dangerous. Those of us living with mental illness fear it too, although for much different reasons. Or perhaps, not so different; we know firsthand how unpredictable the illness can be, and how dangerous we can become to ourselves.

Understanding Pure "O"
I want to be clear from the beginning that this is not a message about being sensitive to peoples' mental illnesses. This is not a case for how one should try to help, or even why one ought to care. This is a story—a patchwork anecdote, really—of the deep disillusionment one can only understand from realizing that your life is not your own.
