Going Home for Christmas
Growing up I always loved watching all those Christmas movies that showed people returning to a family house, picture-perfect, and in a small town. All those childhood memories, happy families, and special holiday gatherings. I wished that my family could also gather that way but I was born and raised in NYC so we always lived in apartments. The closest I ever came at Christmas was going to my grandma and grandpa’s house on Long Island which at least looked like a home in those movies. All of the families in the countries mentioned might also not live in traditional family homes but what brings them together are Christmas traditions and food.

Alberta is the fourth largest province in Canada. It includes five UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Icefields Parkway stretches from Lake Louise to Jasper and is one of the most lovely drives in Canada. Christmas Traditions
As everywhere in the world Latvians celebrate Christmas starting with Christmas Eve on December 24. December 25 Christmas Day is known as the First Christmas and December 26 as the Second Christmas. This is similar to the English Christmas where they celebrate Boxing Day on December 26 so they too have two Christmases.

On the first floor is a grand entry hall, the reception room, a formal dining room, the governor’s study, a luncheon room, and the kitchen. The mansion was ready for occupation in July of 1908 and the first governor to take residence was Governor Denver Dickerson. His daughter June Dickerson was born in the mansion in September of 1909.

Hometown New York City Brooklyn
For people living in small to mid-size hometowns, it is easy to write about their towns. However, for someone like me who was born and raised in New York City, it is rather difficult. Therefore I will look upon the borough of Brooklyn as my small town away from the teeming streets of Manhattan and the other boroughs. If you know about Brooklyn and find a neighborhood missing it is just that I wrote about all the ones I knew and where I have been. I was born in a very quiet corner of Brooklyn called Bay Ridge so I began my tour there. As I continue I will paste the links for the neighborhoods I have written about below.

Dog of My Dreams
TV Dogs Pete Pete the Pup was called Petey by the Little Rascals. The TV series “The Little Rascals” ran for 13 episodes and was released in 1955. Pete was an American pit bull terrier and I just loved that large ring around his eyes. In the series the children all loved him and he entertained and protected them. Even though the series was before my time as a child I watched it in reruns.

Father’s Dilemma
Father woke up in the morning he knew what was ahead. Down to the kitchen he ran and his wife gave him his coffee. Then kissed him on the cheek, gently reminding him of the task ahead. His wife was going Christmas shopping and his children were at Nana’s. His in-laws were coming to dinner, a brightly decorated house to see.
